Who was St. Patrick?

St. Patrick was  born around 387 C.E. in Scotland, and turned to God once he was kidnapped by slave traders and brought to Ireland to be a shepherd.  After he escaped from the Irish marauders at the age of twenty, he then joined the priesthood and was later to become a bishop in the Catholic church.  Patrick was well known for bringing Christianity to Ireland, it was there he became successful in converting much of the Druid and pagan peoples.

The Roman Catholic church originally recognized St. Patrick by giving him his own holiday.  It was then brought to America by Irish immigrants as a way of showing off their identity.

FUN TID BITS

Corned Beef and Cabbage–  is the traditional St. Patrick’s Day feast.

Irish soda bread gets its name and distinctive character from the use of baking soda rather than yeast as a leavening agent

So here is a toast to all my readers on this glorious St. Patrick’s Day March 17, 2016.
