A Tribute To Blinky’s Fun Club

Back when I was a child we had a show on our local KWGN TV station called Blinky’s Fun Club.  Blinky was played by the beloved  Russell Glenn Scott.

Russell Glenn Scott  passed away on August 27, 2012.  Known to most of us Denver and Colorado kids as Blinky The Clown, and according to Wikipedia he was an American clown and television personality and presenter.

When I was just three years old my mother took me to be on Blinky’s show.  I was featured in the “Birthday” section where he would sing the “Happy Birthday” song to the children on the set.  I have fond memories of being on the set and how happy he made all the children when they were there.

After we returned home my mother had received a phone call that the studio had connections and they were in search of the next Shirley Temple.  For those of you too young to remember her, she was Hollywood’s number one box office draw as a child actress  from 1935 – 1938.  I was angry with my mother for many years when I got older for not letting me purse the “acting” career.

When my boys Chris and Kevin Osmera were four and three I took them to the Blinky’s Fun Club show so they could have the same childhood experience that I did being on the show.  I did have the privilege of being pulled from the audience and getting to sing with a few other mom’s “Hit The Road Jack” on television.  I had a blast performing in front of the television and will never forget that experience.

I was upset with my mother for the longest time.  I now realize she did what she did to protect me from a sometimes cruel and vial industry.  Granted there are good things that do come out of the entertainment industry; however as of lately more of the ugliness has been shown to surface than the glitz and glamore.

Many things from my childhood are now fading away or leaving this earth for a better place but I will always remember getting up in the mornings, getting ready for school and eating breakfast watching the late great Blinky The Clown!

RIP Russell Glenn Scott –  AKA Blinky The Clown

Welcome to the Gutenberg Editor

Of Mountains & Printing Presses

The goal of this new editor is to make adding rich content to WordPress simple and enjoyable. This whole post is composed of pieces of content—somewhat similar to LEGO bricks—that you can move around and interact with. Move your cursor around and you’ll notice the different blocks light up with outlines and arrows. Press the arrows to reposition blocks quickly, without fearing about losing things in the process of copying and pasting. What you are reading now is a text block the most basic block of all. The text block has its own controls to be moved freely around the post…

… like this one, which is right aligned.

Headings are separate blocks as well, which helps with the outline and organization of your content.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Handling images and media with the utmost care is a primary focus of the new editor. Hopefully, you’ll find aspects of adding captions or going full-width with your pictures much easier and robust than before.
Beautiful landscape
If your theme supports it, you’ll see the “wide” button on the image toolbar. Give it a try.
Try selecting and removing or editing the caption, now you don’t have to be careful about selecting the image or other text by mistake and ruining the presentation.

The Inserter Tool

Imagine everything that WordPress can do is available to you quickly and in the same place on the interface. No need to figure out HTML tags, classes, or remember complicated shortcode syntax. That’s the spirit behind the inserter—the (+) button you’ll see around the editor—which allows you to browse all available content blocks and add them into your post. Plugins and themes are able to register their own, opening up all sort of possibilities for rich editing and publishing. Go give it a try, you may discover things WordPress can already add into your posts that you didn’t know about. Here’s a short list of what you can currently find there:
  • Text & Headings
  • Images & Videos
  • Galleries
  • Embeds, like YouTube, Tweets, or other WordPress posts.
  • Layout blocks, like Buttons, Hero Images, Separators, etc.
  • And Lists like this one of course 🙂

Visual Editing

A huge benefit of blocks is that you can edit them in place and manipulate your content directly. Instead of having fields for editing things like the source of a quote, or the text of a button, you can directly change the content. Try editing the following quote:
The editor will endeavor to create a new page and post building experience that makes writing rich posts effortless, and has “blocks” to make it easy what today might take shortcodes, custom HTML, or “mystery meat” embed discovery. Matt Mullenweg, 2017
The information corresponding to the source of the quote is a separate text field, similar to captions under images, so the structure of the quote is protected even if you select, modify, or remove the source. It’s always easy to add it back. Blocks can be anything you need. For instance, you may want to add a subdued quote as part of the composition of your text, or you may prefer to display a giant stylized one. All of these options are available in the inserter. You can change the amount of columns in your galleries by dragging a slider in the block inspector in the sidebar.

Media Rich

If you combine the new wide and full-wide alignments with galleries, you can create a very media rich layout, very quickly:
Accessibility is important — don’t forget image alt attribute
Sure, the full-wide image can be pretty big. But sometimes the image is worth it. The above is a gallery with just two images. It’s an easier way to create visually appealing layouts, without having to deal with floats. You can also easily convert the gallery back to individual images again, by using the block switcher. Any block can opt into these alignments. The embed block has them also, and is responsive out of the box:
You can build any block you like, static or dynamic, decorative or plain. Here’s a pullquote block:
Code is Poetry The WordPress community

If you want to learn more about how to build additional blocks, or if you are interested in helping with the project, head over to the GitHub repository.

I Just Finished The Self Made Women 10 Day Challenge

I just finished the Self Made Women 10 Day Challenge.

What an incredible ten days.

Self Made Women was started by it’s founder Cynthia Delaney. She has a passion and a heart full of love to help others succeed in life.

I met both Cynthia and her husband Bill Delaney about three years ago while I was involved with a network marketing company. They were active and one of the top leaders in this company.

After talking with her she said something to me that made the ” lightbulb” flash inside my head. She said; “Alicia I’ve watched you struggle with network marketing, mlm and daily money issues for awhile now. Take the SMW 10 Day Challenge and ignite your destiny”!

At first I was apprehensive about it because my excuse to be honest had always been “my husband does not support me and holds me back”.

During this journey I have discovered it’s not him, it’s me. What have I been afraid of? I’ve been afraid of being uncomfortable, letting go of the life we know right now for a better one.

Well No More!

It stops today!

I have found a tribe of women that will encourage and help hold me accountable for making the necessary changes to gain the advantages and success I seek.

Yes I have written articles about mlm and gaining success, however if I am not practicing what I want to help others achieve then what good are my words?

To be an example, one must pay forward abundance, success and blessings to others.

The time is here and now!

I am a Self Made Women and I challenge you to ignite your destiny.

Remembering

Six years ago on July 20, 2012 an unthinkable and violent act by an animal of a puke human took the lives of twelve people and an unborn child.

The Aurora Theater Shooting was the worst shooting of it’s kind at the time. My daughter lost one of her best friends Micayla Medek.

Many others we injured that night .

Today is not about that night. Today is about honoring those lives taken too soon. The 7/20 Foundation now has the Memorial Garden in place across from the Aurora Munciple Center.

Yes tragedy struck all of us here in Aurora, Colorado that horrible night. Aurora came out stronger than ever.

We will never forget and we will be forever strong!

Happy Anniversary To My Blog

I can’t believe it’s been three years since I started getting more serious with my blog.

As I look back to some previous articles I think “What was I thinking”?

Example my third post titled, Why Do I Work From Home I wrote because I was hoping to start up in an MLM company and be able to stay working at home.

I loved the freedom to do what I wanted when I wanted. However a greater being had other plans for me.

I believe now that not everyone is meant to be in a network marketing company and be a top performer. Okay I hear the doubters and the I told you so’s screaming and laughing at me.

It takes alot to get people involved in your home business. To buy the product your selling and trying to recruit others below you to actually make decent money.

Yes I still believe in network marketing. However it just hasn’t been working out for me. Oh I can hear it all now.. Did you do this and that? Yes and yes!!!

Three year doesn’t seem like that long ago. I thought I just started yesterday ha ha ha.

Happy reading!

I Must Apologize

I feel that I owe my blog readers an apology.

I’ve been so busy with helping my husband through the death of his brother and redoing the house so we could move in, that I just haven’t been able to write anything.

The worst thing through this whole nightmare has been the packing of both houses and now unpacking 1 into 2. Going through another person’s belongings isn’t any fun.

For sure it feels like an invasion of his privacy. Death never leaves anything private!

Unpacking God I hate it. Figuring out where to put things, all while working and trying to maintain life in general.

I promise to do better.

Please accept my sincere apology.

Awkward Is Okay

Awkward is defined as not

graceful; ungainly

, not

dexterous; clumsy.

Being a preteen or a teenager is awkward for most young people.

Getting braces on their teeth. Girls and boys are starting changes with their bodies. Kids in school start making fun of others because they are different from them.

As a person grows into adulthood, they may be biologically an adult, and have adult behaviors but still be treated as a children because of their maturity level.

Workplace Awkwardness

Starting a new career can make anyone feel weird. The clumsiness comes out due to being nervous. How can one overcome this feeling of being awkward?

Shauna Lebowitz shares 7 Easy ways to stop being socially awkward in her article for Business Insider.com.

I love how she starts out her article.

Everyone’s had a socially awkward experience or two.

You go to hug someone, but they’re trying to shake your hand, so you end up backslapping them from a foot away.

We all have experiences good or bad! Leering how to overcome the bad ones takes time and practice.

What’s your best weird moment?

The one date I had with my husband I was wearing high heels and a sexy little dress. I got out of the car and was walking into the gas station I tripped over the hose and fell flat on my face. Awkward and embarrassing to say the least.

Since that day we laugh at almost anything.

Well time to wrap this up. Share your thoughts below.
