CARPE DIEM

image

Carpe diem is a Latin aphorism, usually translated as “seize the day”, taken from book 1 of the Roman poet Horace’s work Odes (23 BC).

One of my favorite quotes is “Carpe diem”.
Seizing the most out of every day, every opportunity is important in life.

With network marketing, it is extremely important to take advantage of every opportunity in front of you.
Taking advantage of every opportunity keeps a marketing guru on top of the game.

Eric Worre is best known for his Go Pro book and CD.
I had the chance to see him in person back in Phoenix, Arizona during the Lifevantage Global Convention in
October 2015.

His main focus was teaching those in attendance how to share their story.   Be short and to the point! Don’t take more than two minutes or you lose people’s attention.   Find their pain. What is it about them that makes them want a change in their life?

Take that pain and seize the opportunity to make that next meeting.  Be gentle and follow through on what you say you’re going to do.  If you tell someone,  “I will call you on Saturday at 2:00pm” then do it!

Seizing The Day!

Opportunities are all around us.  The cashier at the store, the waitress or waiter at the restaurant,  your doctor, pharmacist,  lawyer, construction worker, and the list goes on.

Try something new to get yourself out of that comfort zone.   Wear a new color, smell the flowers, text or call that one person you’ve been too afraid to contact.   You never know, they may just be the one gem that shines in your business.

As always,

I Wrote A Book

image

The journey that led me to write comes from a deep passion for reading and writing.

I started writing this book in 2011 after getting laid off from my job with a DME (Durable Medical Equipment ) company after twenty-something years in the medical field as a licensed respiratory therapist.

What does a respiratory therapist do?

Respiratory Therapists are important to patients that have trouble breathing. Lung diseases like Asthma, Emphysema, and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) just to name a few. The main responsibilities are to keep patients breathing. They perform anything from a nebulizer treatment to administering a Bipap or CPAP therapy, as a major part of a person’s care in the intensive care unit.

image

Now, where was I? Oh, that’s right I was telling you about my journey to writing my first book, Terror In The North Tower. One day I sat down and just started typing on the computer. Words just seemed to flow onto the page. Then after about six months, they stopped. All in all, it took me a year to write this work of art. The writing wasn’t that hard, it was finding a publisher I could afford.

Publishers cost money!

Zondervan and Xulon Press are just a few that I checked into. They both said; “Oh yes, we can help you publish your book but it’s going to cost $$$ dollars”. I didn’t have that kind of money? Finally, after four years I had the opportunity to meet Monna Ellithorpe. She’s a member and co-founder of the Power Affiliate Club PAC and a published author herself.

What an amazing experience it has been working with the  Kindle platform.

What’s the book about?

It’s science fiction, murder mystery, and love story with a twist that the readers won’t see coming. This story’s main theme is about a respiratory therapist in a hospital setting. Many books like this one are written by a doctor or nurse, never by a respiratory therapist.

Now I want to make something very clear. This fictional thriller is just that. Fiction!!!

I love my profession as well as my peers. And the men and women that have a passion for it also.

***Terror In The North Tower was released on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Purchase the book here.

I hope that the person reading this blog post will order the book, read it, share this article, and spread the word.

Hiding From Your Dreams

image

Have you been hiding from your dreams?

When you were younger you had dreamsDreams of going to college, obtaining a degree, getting married, starting a family, or maybe starting your own business?  Whatever your dreams are or where it’s not too late to achieve them.

For example —

I dreamed of going to Oral Roberts University to study music or medicine.   Instead, I met my husband in high school,  got married, and raised a family.   My focus changed by choosing a career in respiratory therapy.  I was still doing something in the medical field with a rewarding feeling, being able to help save lives and educate others about health and wellness.

image

Dreams–

Now my dreams are changed.  My first book is about to be published, becoming an active entrepreneur to live life on my own terms.  Work when I want, where I want.   To help others’ dreams of success become a reality that is my new dream and together we will GAIN THE ADVANTAGE!

Money, Grabbing, Greedy, Monster Suckers they take it all!

Money, Grabbing, Greedy, Monster Suckers they take it all!

image

Bills, food, rent, a mortgage,  utilities,  entertainment,  clothes,  sports,  and whatever else the money grabbing, greedy, monster suckers feel they can take.

I was so angry thinking today about how much my parents paid for necessities and entertainment  when I was a child in the 1970’s.   My mother had the privilege of being able to stay home to raise me.   A one income family and yet they still seemed to have money for extras in life.

According to In The 70s.com the cost of:
Bread was 0.24, now $2.29.
Gas was 0.40, now $1.95 average
Car’s median purchase price $2,500.00, now $25,000.00
House costs $40,000.00, now $245,000.00
The average income was $8,900.00, now $25,000 – $54,3000 depending on the family incomes.

What needs to change?

image

I have found myself asking this very questions lately.
Are we better off today then we were five,  ten even fifteen years ago?  We were until I lost my great paying job as a Respiratory Therapist and discovered I was burned out after twenty some years in the  field.   I’ve tried other opportunities from selling home security systems to temporary assisgnments from employment agencies.

The loss of one income is hard to handle, let alone families lose two good incomes.  Yes that’s happened!
Now my husband is trying to get disability after working for the City of Aurora for over ninteen years.

Opportunities

I found my opportunity with the only company that is a one of a kind, scientific research breakthrough and it’s changing lives!

People are always going to be septicale about network marketing.   It’s finding the right people that are open to making a trail blazing change in their lives and the lives of their families.

Change Is Good

Why are you working in that job?  Why are you wearing those clothes,  driving the car you do?
Are you satisfied with your life?
Seeking a challenging and rewarding change?

Network marketing paid out over $163,000,000.00 last year!  If that doesn’t spark an interesting conversation I don’t know what will.

Don’t be afraid of changing things because that one change might just lead you to the best things to happen in your life.

Free Blog Sites vs. WordPress.org

I am fairly new to the blogging community.  I have two sites one  (www.connectwithalicia.wordpress.com) the one your currently reading and  (www.tradingdimesfortime.gblogger.com) after setting up both of these sites it was brought to my attention that there are paid blog sites.  Having a paid site makes a “true blogging guru” seen as a serious writer with a WordPress.org behind the name or any other paid blog site.

C__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved Images_wordpress-com

What is WordPress.org vs. WordPress.com?

According to WordPress.com, Word Press was founded in 2003 and Word Press has grown to become the largest self-hosted blogging site in the world.  It is used by millions of people all over the world.

What are the options one can use with the WordPress.com?

This site is a free service which offers a beginning blogger ( like me) a chance to develop a site you can design on your own, and all with the added convince of being able to avoid paying the fees to having someone else build your blog site for you.

Being a new blogger I have had challenges as I am sure you have too.   When you first establish your   name then you can proceed forward with developing your site.  The difference between a blog address   and a blog domain name gives you an edge in the development of the site with strategic solutions to meet your needs.

WordPress.com gives you;

Ecommerce, a Custom Site Address, Space, No Ads, Custom Design, Video Press, Premium Themes , Google Analytics, Support, 3 GB and it’s Free for Life.

WordPress.com Premium gives you all of the above and 13GB, Direct email.   Costs $99 per year.

WordPress.com Business gives you all of the above with Unlimited Features, Live chat.  Costs $299 per year.

wordpress-blog

 WordPress.org

Allows the blogger to set up a more professional website blog and have it hosted; which in turn gives the blogger more freedom to be creative with their content allowing them control what is being published.

Features with WordPress.org include:

You’re the owner of your blog domain, Content Management System (CMS) software for free.  A CMS is a computer application that allows publishing, editing, modifying, and organizing, deleting, and maintaining content from a central interface (per Wikipedia).

Of course with the software comes the responsibility of hosting your site.

1 A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center

Word Press has its own hosting site called Blue host.   Blue host is one of the largest and most trusted web hosting service providers.

 imagesXMD618QL

Of course then you will need to set up your theme, your plugin’s, how a reader can contact you, email list (if you choose to do one).  With WordPress.org the author has full control over what they are publishing and creating.  With WordPress.com you are limited and they monitor the content that can be published.  You can’t use third-party advertising, you’re limited on storage space and no FTP access to your files.

Which Word Press should you use?

First I recommend looking at the layout you want to create and then decide if you’re writing more for pleasure, to attract business, marketing a product, or more for informational purposes.

The one thing I have found with WordPress.com is that I can upgrade to WordPress.org at any time and still design the site the way I choose.

Secondly choosing how to write your blog depends on your style.  Are you a colorful person?  Photographs make your articles pop and stand out to the readers. Be creative with it, don’t  follow what other people are doing.

My final thought.  —- Do what’s best for you and not what other people are telling you to do This is your project!

St. Patrick’s Day

Who was St. Patrick?

Saint Patrick Journeying to Tara
Engraving of St. Patrick traveling to Tara. Undated illustration.

St. Patrick was  born around 387 C.E. in Scotland, and turned to God once he was kidnapped by slave traders and brought to Ireland to be a shepherd.  After he escaped from the Irish marauders at the age of twenty, he then joined the priesthood and was later to become a bishop in the Catholic church.  Patrick was well known for bringing Christianity to Ireland, it was there he became successful in converting much of the Druid and pagan peoples.

The Roman Catholic church originally recognized St. Patrick by giving him his own holiday.  It was then brought to America by Irish immigrants as a way of showing off their identity.

FUN TID BITS

Corned Beef and Cabbage–  is the traditional St. Patrick’s Day feast.

Irish soda bread gets its name and distinctive character from the use of baking soda rather than yeast as a leavening agent

So here is a toast to all my readers on this glorious St. Patrick’s Day March 17, 2016.

Leap Day, Year and Why

julius-caesar-bust
Every four years an extra day is added to the Gregorian calendar. This is the calendar that most of us use on a daily basis. I was curious as to the history of adding a day and why it is necessary every four years.

Who Invented Leap Years?
Roman General Julius Caesar introduced the idea over 2000 years ago. During the Roman Empire the Julian Calendar was the only one used and he added one rule to it. Julian calendar had only one rule: any year evenly divisible by four would be a leap year.
This formula produced way too many leap years, but was not corrected until the introduction of the Gregorian calendar more than 1500 years later.
Why Are Leap Days Important?
Leap years are added to keep our modern day calendar in alignment with the Earth’s revolution around the sun. It takes the Earth approximately 365.242189 days 365 days, or 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds – to circle once around the Sun. This is called a tropical year, and is measured from the March equinox.
However, the Gregorian calendar has only 365 days in a year, so if we didn’t add a leap day on February 29 nearly every four years, we would lose almost six hours off our calendar every year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by around 24 days! The next Leap Day is February 29, 2024.
Leap Day Traditions

A few fun traditions;

  • Women Propose To Their MenOn leap day it has been an Irish tradition that the Women propose to men for marriage.
  • Some area’s call it “Bachelor Days” – If a man rejects the women’s marriage proposal on a leap day he is expected to “pay a penalty” such a s a gown or money. In European countries, especially in the upper class communities it is tradition that if the man rejects the women’s proposal he must buy her twelve pairs of gloves to hide her shame and embarrassment of not wearing an engagement ring.
  • Leap Day Baby’s – For those baby’s born on this day their birthday’s are celebrated either February 28 or March 1.

The Jewish Leap Year – is referred to as Shanah Me’uberet, has 13 months and occurs seven times in a 19-year cycle.
Adar – The Lucky Month
An extra month, Adar I, is added after the month of Shevat and before the month of Adar in a leap year. The month is also known as Adar Rishon or Adar Alef. According to Jewish tradition, Adar is a lucky and happy month.

The Chinese Calendar – Adds a whole leap month to correlate with the traditional Gregorian calendar.

When is the Leap Month?

To determine a leap year, find the number of new moons between the 11th month in one year and the 11th month in the following year.

A leap month is inserted if there are 13 moons from the start of the 11th month in the first year to the start of the 11th month in the next year.

The Chinese calendar uses a solar term system that has 12 principal terms to indicate when the Sun’s longitudes is a multiple of 30 degrees. Unlike all other months, the leap month does not contain a principal term (Zhongqi).

Disbelief!

DISBELIEF

One word will kill the  chances of ever finding success in network marketing.

DISBELIEF!

Disbelief  is defined as  the 1. Inability or refusal to accept that something is true or real 2. Lack of faith in something. *Webster’s Dictionary

Doubting  in yourself is going to hold you back and take you down a long and winding road! This is one reason all of the top successful network marketers tell us to work on self improvement.  Work on a positive mindset, be around successful and positive  influences because they will give you the ability to produce the successful results you’re seeking.

For example someone has offered you an unbelievable opportunity.  Yet you have seen all of the documentation, seen videos, talked to other people in the business and yet you still disbelieve “this one of a kind opportunity” exists.

In the book –  Napoleon Hill’s Keys to Success: The 17 Principles of Personal Achievement book there is a blurp about overcoming disbelief.   In this book he highlights three easy steps to obtain overcoming disbelief.

  1. Express a definite desire for the achievement of a purpose, and relate it to one or more of the basic human motives.
  2. Create a definite and specific plan for attaining that desire.
  3. Start acting on that plan, putting every conscious effort  behind it.

Reading books like Napoleon Hill’s Keys to Success: The Principles of Personal Achievement,  How To Think And Grow Rich will aid in developing the proper techniques and mindset to gain success.

The more we clear our minds from the negativity filters, the better we become with believing we have the ability to accomplish the goals that we have set aside.  Clear your mind of all negative thoughts of poverty, unsuccessfulness, fear, regrets, and take the necessary steps to build your faith level up where it needs to be to achieve the success you seek.

Be My Valentine

Happy Valentines Day Readers,

image

Would you be my valentine?  Have you ever wondered how this holiday came to be?  Yes,  there’s a religious meaning to Valentines Day.

According to Wikipedia.com Saint Valentine’s history is quite interesting https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine%27s_Day.

Saint Valentine of Rome which indicated he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire.[3] According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius,[4] and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell.[5]

In trouble with the authorities for spreading love to the world.  How injust, how unfair was that?  With all the moaning I read about and see in the news about ( me, myself and I ),  it’s a relief to read about an actual person who was making a change in the world.

From my point of view it’s wrong to imprisoned someone for spreading love to others.

When you’re grabbing those flowers, cards, taking her (or his) hands into yours; remember one man made it possible for you to continue to spread the message of love and hope.  Jesus Christ is the ultimate sign of unconditional love.    To be nailed to a cross, left to die when  he could have stopped the torture by calling down all the angels from heaven proving to non believers that he was in fact the Messiah would have been the easiest thing to do.   Yet Jesus choose to endure the pain and suffering so we (mortal men) could obtain forgiveness from the Heavenly Father and show unconditional love to others.

Would You Be My Valentine?
