Self Care Sunday’s Series; Keeping Your Lungs Healthy

I hope you all had a happy and healthy Easter Sunday last week.

Healthy Lungs

Since I am a Respiratory Therapist; I decided to write today’s article about keeping your lungs healthy. Especially due to the COVID 19 Coronavirus and the complications that can arise from this nasty respiratory virus.

As you know, breathing is a necessary function of life. What you may not be aware of are the differences between having healthy lungs and lung diseases.

A Healthy Lung vs A Diseased Lung

Your lungs provide the oxygen that your body needs for survival. Pushing oxygen through the blood stream and assisting with filtering out carbon dioxide from your body. Damage to the lungs can occur from genetics, the environment and smoking. All these things can cause damage to your lungs.

By now you should already be  aware that smoking causes lung diseases like Emphysema and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease); which cause irreversible damage to the lungs.

Keeping Your Lungs Healthy

1. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants.

2. Exercising frequently increases your lung function.

3. Improve indoor air quality with changing your furnance filter every thirty days, using an air purifier to help filter out pollutants, molds and dust.

4. If you smoke, stop smoking. Talk with your physician or call your local Quitline.

5. Get vaccinations like the flu vaccine and pneumonia vaccines to help prevent lung infections and promote lung health.

The Mechanics of Breathing

Take a deep breath and inhale, hold it for ten seconds and then exhale letting all the air out of your lungs.

Could you feel the air moving in and out of your lungs? This motion is known as The Mechanics of Breathing. As you breathe in and out the lungs exchange air flow throughout your lungs.

I’m not going to spend too much time talking about COVID 19 because it is my observation that we are inundatted with news updates every day.

Know the signs of COVID19 – Coronavirus

Watch for symptoms

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness.

These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus:

  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills

When to Seek Medical Attention

If you develop emergency warning signs for COVID-19 get medical attention immediately. Emergency warning signs include*:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face

*This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.

Call 911 if you have a medical emergency: Notify the operator that you have, or think you might have, COVID-19. If possible, put on a cloth face covering before medical help arrives.

My wish for you is to be happy and healthy. I hope you enjoyed today’s blog post and that you will leave a comment.

Intellifluence A New Way To Connect Your Businesses With Consumers

**This post may contain affiliate links. In the event of a sale, I get rewarded a small commission, at no extra cost to you. These funds help me keep my blog up and running to provide you with great content so thank you!**

Intellifluence is an easy way to build relationships and increase your blog, or company’s awareness and sales.

A few months ago I was web surfing for “work from home” opportunities and came across this new website opportunity called Intellifluence. After doing my due diligence, I signed up. Companies are always looking for people to review their products and share them with the masses. The internet has changed the way businesses market their products.

How Does It Work?

Using their platform allows your company to communicate directly with interested consumers, acting as the influencer. Most of the companies using this website are small businesses. With the bottom lines being right it makes marketing products even more of a challenge. Their pricing is reasonable with many options. One can cancel at any time without a penalty.

What Companies Work With Intellifluence?

All kinds of companies from Newair, Reedsy, and Simply Earth, to name a few. Any company that needs a little help to announce new products or opportunities should jump on board.

Becoming An Influencer

Once the decision is made to become an influencer click the join button and get started. I’ve made it easy for you by clicking my intellifluence link.

Once you join, you can earn badges to help promote yourself.

Getting Free Stuff and Getting Paid

What? Did I really just read that? Yes, yes you did. The beauty of signing up is some of the free sample items, money, and keeping what a collaborator pays for.

As a blogger, certain companies pitch their ideas along with the payment amount. Should you accept my advice, set up a Zelle Pay or a Venmo account for receiving payments. It’s better to be secure when it comes to your money.

Yes, I have made a few dollars and will continue my journey as an influencer. Whatever your decision I wish you all the success.

December

December is here and another year is coming near the end.

With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season I want to take the time to reflect  back on this year.

As I look back at my blog I see the growth that has happened.  When I started blogging it was random, without a real purpose.

My very first post

Creating Your Brand is so short, after reading it I have to wonder what was I thinking?

Scrolling on up you will find my atricle titled  A New Era.  This post was written after I turned fifty.  Looking back on personal goals, things that still needed to be achived in my heart and mind.

One of my  favorite articles is Becoming A Power Affiliate Club Expert Author.  The PAC for short, has been a great experiance for me.  I’ve worked hard to win certain contest to become an expert author.

If you’re a blogger then consider checking out this video How PAC ( The Power Affiliate Club) Works For You.  Lesly Federici is one of the co-founders of PAC.  Her mentoring is graceful, caring, kind and firm but loving.

Another Pac co-founder and expert author is Monna Ellithorpe. She is also an editor and publisher. When I was looking for an editor for my book,  Yes I Wrote A Book it’s called Terror In The North Tower.  A suspensful murder mystery that will have you gripping the edge of your seat!

One of my most proudest moments was being nomintated for the Liebster Award.  This award recognizes up and coming bloggers for their hard work and allows them to gain attraction in the blogging communities.

Another favorite post is Damaging Self Talk.  Looking back on this crazy year in the news is what led me to writing that post.  Please treat each other with kindness and respect.  All Lives Matter!

Last but not least  I want to leave you with images of my family and a few favorite posts from Facebook Connect With Alicia Page

And this is one of favorite pictures of all time.  It’s like God painted a flag of the United States Of America and said, “God Bless America”!

To you and yours may the month of December 2016 bring you much health, happiness and a bright new year.

 As Always  Gain The Advantage,

Free Blog Sites vs. WordPress.org

I am fairly new to the blogging community.  I have two sites one  (www.connectwithalicia.wordpress.com) the one your currently reading and  (www.tradingdimesfortime.gblogger.com) after setting up both of these sites it was brought to my attention that there are paid blog sites.  Having a paid site makes a “true blogging guru” seen as a serious writer with a WordPress.org behind the name or any other paid blog site.

What is WordPress.org vs. WordPress.com?

According to WordPress.com, Word Press was founded in 2003 and Word Press has grown to become the largest self-hosted blogging site in the world.  It is used by millions of people all over the world.

What are the options one can use with the WordPress.com?

This site is a free service which offers a beginning blogger ( like me) a chance to develop a site you can design on your own, and all with the added convince of being able to avoid paying the fees to having someone else build your blog site for you.

Being a new blogger I have had challenges as I am sure you have too.   When you first establish your   name then you can proceed forward with developing your site.  The difference between a blog address   and a blog domain name gives you an edge in the development of the site with strategic solutions to meet your needs.

WordPress.com gives you;

Ecommerce, a Custom Site Address, Space, No Ads, Custom Design, Video Press, Premium Themes , Google Analytics, Support, 3 GB and it’s Free for Life.

WordPress.com Premium gives you all of the above and 13GB, Direct email.   Costs $99 per year.

WordPress.com Business gives you all of the above with Unlimited Features, Live chat.  Costs $299 per year.

 WordPress.org

Allows the blogger to set up a more professional website blog and have it hosted; which in turn gives the blogger more freedom to be creative with their content allowing them control what is being published.

Features with WordPress.org include:

You’re the owner of your blog domain, Content Management System (CMS) software for free.  A CMS is a computer application that allows publishing, editing, modifying, and organizing, deleting, and maintaining content from a central interface (per Wikipedia).

Of course with the software comes the responsibility of hosting your site.

1 A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center

Word Press has its own hosting site called Blue host.   Blue host is one of the largest and most trusted web hosting service providers.

 imagesXMD618QL

Of course then you will need to set up your theme, your plugin’s, how a reader can contact you, email list (if you choose to do one).  With WordPress.org the author has full control over what they are publishing and creating.  With WordPress.com you are limited and they monitor the content that can be published.  You can’t use third-party advertising, you’re limited on storage space and no FTP access to your files.

Which Word Press should you use?

First I recommend looking at the layout you want to create and then decide if you’re writing more for pleasure, to attract business, marketing a product, or more for informational purposes.

The one thing I have found with WordPress.com is that I can upgrade to WordPress.org at any time and still design the site the way I choose.

Secondly choosing how to write your blog depends on your style.  Are you a colorful person?  Photographs make your articles pop and stand out to the readers. Be creative with it, don’t  follow what other people are doing.

My final thought.  —- Do what’s best for you and not what other people are telling you to do This is your project!
